From seed to cuttings, annuals to perennials, Meadowlands Horticultural Inc. is committed to fulfilling our customers’ needs and exceeding their expectations.

Since Gordon and Cynthia Wong founded Meadowlands Horticultural Inc. in 1997, the Burnaby, B.C. based business has evolved into a premier plant propagator.  The purchase of the Tried and True® brand of plants further developed Meadowlands’ commitment to servicing the industry.

Originally named Meadowlands Farm and Nursery, growing began with 20,000 square feet of Harnois Ovaltech greenhouses located on four acres of land.  Meadowlands grew primarily bedding plants, hanging baskets, potatoes, Chinese vegetables and some herbs for garden centers and grocery stores.

1999 proved to be a very exciting and progressive year for the company:

• Meadowlands took on its current name and became an incorporated company
• An agreement in principle was established with Northern Innovators, an international young plant sales and marketing company, to become their primary rooting station in Western Canada
• The construction of a 25,000 square foot Prins Glass Venlo House equipped for plant propagation

With numerous expansions over the last ten years, Meadowlands’ facilities employ a mix of traditional and advanced technologies to meet our uncompromising standard of quality. The 100,000 square feet of covered area consists of glass and poly covered houses; some ground to ground and some gutter connected.  All houses are computer temperature controlled with the glass propagation house equipped with under bench hot water heat, rolling expanded metal benches, mist, high pressure sodium lights, shade and heat-retention systems, and tempered irrigation water. The variety of houses and equipment allows Meadowlands the flexibility to select the proper environment for specific crops.

Meadowlands has two distinct divisions:

• Meadowlands is a propagator of seed, vegetative, and tissue culture plant material.  Un-rooted cuttings are received from breeders all over the world including Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Germany, Guatemala, Holland, Israel, Mexico and United States. Seeds come from seed brokerage companies who search the world for the best and most well known genetics. Northern Innovators markets Meadowlands’ floral plugs and rooted cuttings in Western Canada and to parts of the United States.  Commercial farmers are serviced directly by Meadowlands.

• Meadowlands is a finished grower of quality plant material servicing independent garden centers. A major highlight for Meadowlands Horticultural Inc. was the purchase of the Tried and True® brand from Ed Holden and J.P. White of White Rock Nurseries in 2005. The program started in 1999 after Ed and J.P. recognized a need for a line of plants that would be reliable, easy to grow and maintain, and would perform well for the home gardener. This proved to be a perfect fit with Meadowlands’ unwritten motto of “quality, service and innovation”. Tried and True® allows Meadowlands to pick the best possible plants and offer them in one complete line. Every year, Tried and True® introduces new plants and replaces old varieties with improved ones. The spring annual line consists of over 160 “best of the best” varieties and the Tried and True Edibles^® includes more than 60 premium varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs.

Meadowlands’ customer service understands the importance of receiving an order complete and on time. We take great pride in our products and ensure orders are processed in an efficient manner. Meadowlands’ broad customer base includes other greenhouse growers, independent garden centers, government agencies, commercial businesses, and commercial farmers.
